From Shelter to Home: A Dog Adoption Story
Written by Jeff Rowse at Feel State Florissant
Tuesday, August 26 is National Dog Day, and for me it has taken on a special meaning since adopting my first dog, Betty. In just two and a half years, she has shown me how deeply a dog can touch your life and feed the soul. Their unconditional love and loyalty make them more than pets. They are family.

Paws and Puffs 3
That is why I am proud to have organized Feel State’s third Paws and Puffs event in partnership with the APA of Missouri. This event has grown into something very special, and each time we host it the goal stays the same: to help dogs find their forever homes by connecting them with the right families.
Whether you are ready to adopt or simply want to meet the dogs and help share their stories, your presence can make a difference. Every person who attends gives these pups more visibility and a better chance at finding the home they deserve.

Why Adoption Matters to Me
Every year, thousands of dogs enter shelters through no fault of their own. Some are lost or surrendered, while others are rescued from unsafe situations. Adoption offers them safety, consistent care, and the opportunity to live the life they deserve. I have seen this transformation up close.
Betty is my first dog, and I adopted her when she was still just a pup. Even at that young age, her gentle eyes connected with my soul. There is not a hooman she does not love or wag her tail at. Now, at only two and a half years old, she rarely leaves my side, spending most days curled up in my office while I work. Betty is proof to me that it does not matter if you walk on two legs or four, love is universal.

Dogs Feed the Soul
Betty’s story is only one of many, and she reminds me every day why dogs are so special. She reminds me to slow down, even when she is tugging on the leash, and return the love she so freely gives. It's not difficult, either. I know there is a dog out there whose personality will fit perfectly with yours too.

Caring for Our Pets
For those of us already lucky enough to share our lives with dogs, keeping them happy and comfortable is always a top priority. Some pet owners, myself included, look into options like CBD to support calmness, mobility, or overall well-being. Just like a human would talk to their doctor before starting something new, I always recommend talking with your veterinarian first. Still, I know many people who have found CBD to be a helpful part of their pet’s wellness routine.
