Ring out, ye buds!
All Nature floods
With joy at this green, wondrous story,—
The world was dry,
But herb grows high
To change our woes into herbaceous glory.
Blaze, earthlings, blaze!
Tonight we raise
A gift from earth’s own hands to bless us.
The glowing leaf
Relieves our grief,
Its calming power here to caress us.
Come at her call;
Be lifted all;
Away with worry and with sorrow!
The sacred haze
Sets hearts ablaze,
With light and hope for each tomorrow.
The dark recedes,
And dawn proceeds,
Its colors tinged in earthy blushes.
The fields and stones
In mellow tones
Exhale more sweetly than the thrushes.
So why should we
In silence be,
When Nature rolls her gifts so fine;
As earth and sky
Grow soft and high,
In clouds that wrap like woven vine?
No, blaze aloud,
Let puffs of cloud
Lift up your praise to skies wide-swinging;
On hill and heath
With every breath
Let nature’s voice keep on singing!
